Must learn Tai Chi readings

Part 1: "Inherent distinct method: At the beginning of life, one's eyes can see, ears can hear, nose can smell, mouth can taste; colors, sounds, fragrances, and tastes—all are natural perceptions, inherent goodness. The movements of hands and feet, the abilities of the four limbs—all are natural and inherent. When considering this, people become familiar without cause; human nature is close but also distant, lost and confused in the inherent. To restore our inherent, we must seek the root of movement through martial practice and the original source of perception through scholarly understanding. It is by moving that we perceive, and by perceiving that we feel. Without movement, there is no perception; without action, there is no sensation. When movement reaches its extreme, it becomes action; when perception is heightened, it becomes knowledge. The one who knows through action…

Fame and high exposure does not necessarily equal “a master.”

Having a big reputation and high visibility doesn't mean one is a "renowned teacher." Fame and fortune often burden one with superficial acclaim. A true "renowned teacher" is an "enlightened teacher," not only possessing exceptional skills but also demonstrating exemplary ethics. They are adept at tailoring their teaching to suit each student, taking their responsibilities seriously and demanding discipline. Genuine renowned teachers don't indulge in obscure and mystical martial arts theories; instead, they can elucidate martial arts theories in a clear and practical manner. They guide their students to integrate knowledge and action, truly embodying the martial arts.

Does Tai Chi Work in a Fight? What Real Martial Training Requires

Yes, Tai Chi can be trained as a martial art, but simply practicing slow forms does not automatically make someone able to fight. If a practitioner wants real self-defense ability, the training has to include partner work, applications, timing, distance, balance, conditioning, and eventually some form of realistic resistance.  This is where the question becomes more complicated than a simple yes or no. Today, many people practice Tai Chi mainly for health, mobility, balance, relaxation, or enjoyment. There is nothing wrong with that. But health-oriented Tai Chi and martial training do not have exactly the same goals, even when they use the same form.  After spending most of my life around traditional Chinese martial arts, I have seen this difference many times. A person can perform a beautiful slow form and still have very little understanding of distance, timing, contact, or what happens when another person does not cooperate. On the other hand, someone who trains the form together with push hands, applications, partner drills, and resistance starts developing a very different skill set.

How to Choose a Tai Chi Teacher

When it comes to finding a Tai Chi teacher, many individuals are unable to travel to China due to constraints such as time and money. Consequently, the most viable option is to search for a local instructor. So, what should you consider first when looking for a Tai Chi teacher? The answer lies in the lineage, as everyone aspires to study under the guidance of the best grand master.           However, if there isn't a grand master Tai Chi teacher available in your city, it is perfectly acceptable to learn from a disciple of a lineage holder. Lineage remains the foremost consideration. Secondly, ensure that you avoid learning from teachers who mix different styles. In our world, there are numerous individuals who have studied under various masters. Are all of them proficient? Perhaps, just as in school, if you excel in everything, you may not be an expert in anything.
