Obituary | Mourning Mr. Wang Xi’an with Heavy Hearts

Mr. Wang Xi’an, a renowned Chinese martial artist, one of the first batch of representative inheritors of the intangible cultural heritage (Chen-style Tai Chi Chuan project), one of the “Four Great Diamonds” of Chenjiagou Tai Chi Chuan, the eleventh generation successor of Chen-style Tai Chi Chuan, former deputy director and chief coach of Wen County Martial Arts Gymnasium, honorary chairman of Wen County Martial Arts Association, honorary professor of Henan University, and a member of the Communist Party of China, passed away at 10:30 am on February 6, 2024 (the 27th day of the twelfth lunar month in the year of Gui Mao), at the age of 81. He was acclaimed both domestically and internationally as a master of Chen-style Tai Chi Chuan.

Born in July 1944 in Chenjiagou, Wen County, Mr. Wang Xi’an was a disciple of the tenth generation of Chen-style Tai Chi Chuan inheritors Chen Zhao Pi, Chen Zhao Kui, and Feng Zhiqiang. He won numerous national and provincial martial arts championships. Mr. Wang dedicated his life to the promotion and dissemination of Tai Chi Chuan, teaching in over ten countries including France, Japan, the United States, and Spain, and establishing nearly 200 Tai Chi research and training centers worldwide. He was hailed as the “International Tai Chi King” by “US News” in America and awarded the title of “Permanent Honorary Citizen” by Osaka City in Japan and Bagnolet City in France. His works on Tai Chi Chuan, including “Chen-style Tai Chi Chuan Old Frame,” “Chen-style Tai Chi Chuan Push Hands Techniques,” and “Secrets of Chen-style Tai Chi Chuan Old Frame,” have been translated into English, French, and Japanese, reaching audiences worldwide.

To mourn Mr. Wang Xi’an, a body farewell ceremony will be held at 9 am on March 5th (the 25th day of the first lunar month) at his home. Relatives, friends, and disciples of Mr. Wang Xi’an during his lifetime are kindly asked to inform each other.

中国著名武术家、国家首批非物质文化遗产(陈氏太极拳项目)代表性传承人、陈家沟太极拳“四大金刚”之一、陈式太极拳第十一代传人、原温县武术馆副馆长兼总教练、温县武术协会名誉主席、河南大学名誉教授、中国共产党党员,享誉国内外的陈式太极拳大师王西安先生于2024年2月6日(农历癸卯年腊月二十七日)上午10时30分逝世,享年81岁。
  王西安先生是温县陈家沟人,1944年7月出生,先后师承陈式太极拳第十代传人陈照丕、陈照奎、冯志强,曾经多次获得国家和省级武术比赛冠军。王西安先生倾其一生,致力于太极拳的弘扬和推广,先后多次赴法国、日本、美国、西班牙等十余个国家讲学授拳,并在国内外创立太极拳研究和训练中心近200家,被美国的《美国新闻》誉为“国际太极拳王”,被日本大阪市和法国巴德纳市授予“永久荣誉市民”。王西安先生先后编著的《陈式太极拳老架》《陈式太极拳推手技法》《陈式太极拳老架秘诀》等太极拳著作已被译为英文、法文、日文版广播四海。
  为沉痛悼念王西安先生,定于阳历3月5日(农历正月二十五)上午9时,在家中举办遗体告别仪式,请王西安先生的生前亲友及弟子相互转告。
